Welcome to hell it's cold here
The sirens rang loudly and pierced the sky with their wailing. I winced and quietly walked to Finic's house. My panic showing only by the sweat on my palms. My Mother was somewhere and I guessed the fallout shelters the government had set up down the road from our house. I didn't quite care for mother nor her location.
I see people rush carrying bags and suitcases. Families hurry to the bunkers quickly. The information we had been given from the first bomb was simple and quick. Only those who were related to government officers or higher got more detailed advice and instructions.
Finic was an example of that. His father was a government officer of sorts. He died days after the New York Nuclear attack for no apparent reason. Finic never really saw his father anyway. His work had over clouded any family instinct.
My eyes watered slightly as a gust of wind smacked my face. I silently hope that the wind wasn't carrying a nuclear fallout. I groaned and opened Finic's door. Walking into his basement, I stopped at the bunker's entrance. I opened the heavy door and climbed down the ladder.
I stepped down and heard crumbling paper. Finic seemed deeply interested in a pamphlet his eyes scanning it and brows knit. I cleared my throat and the blonde boy I called my best friend jumped up. His Pamphlet thrown from his hand and at my...general direction.
He coughed and I picked up the pamphlet. Handing the thing to him he nodded his face covered in blush freckles disappearing behind it. I looked towards the giant chambers with odd cords tangled around it.
"You made it!" He said still looking at the paper distracted from the conversation. I ignored him and rolled my eyes. He put the paper down and held out his hand. Two pills of the same size and color laid in his palm.
"Take it under your tongue. It's for the chamber so you don't die." He said rolling his eyes. I took one of them; tucking it under my tongue. The pill was sickly sweet tasting.
I looked again towards the chambers, they were made of lead same with the bunker, so our bodies were twice as protected. The chambers were also cryogenic and government issued. I ran a hand through my head. None of this would have happened if not for them.
"Goodbye Finic, see you soon," I said softly my mind spinning from the pill.
"Bye Tristan." He said his voice unenthusiastic and he took his pill. We both walk into our chambers and nodded to each other. With the click of a button the door to the chamber's close and lock. Darkness encases me before a cold blanket and suddenly nothing.
.................................
...........
I had awoken moments before the swirl of colors coming from the chamber release button started flashing. I couldn't see for a while but moved my legs a bit. steadying my breathing, I clicked the button my unused arms groaning in protest. A swish of released air moves my hair as the chamber opens.
I fall to the ground my arms flinging out. I gasp as cold air fills my lungs once again frantically trying to catch my breath. Finic's body soon falls from the chamber after me. I sigh heavily happy that he's okay. He reacts similarly only coughing mildly at the change in the air.
Both Finic and I burst out in laughter before catching ourselves. I left out a groan and try and move my stiff body off the floor. Finic follows my actions. Every bone seems to crack as we stretched out. I yawn and finally, we're able to stand up.
We take an out of chamber pill and eat some prepared food that I had stored in a special tanker. We take small bites of the food and sips of some cleaned water. We sit across from each other in silence.
The only reason we survived this is because Finic had known it would happen. I doubted him at first and then small things started happening. The government put in sirens "Just in case" as Finic's dad had said. The government also started rapidly testing and building things in multiple towns across the state.
Finic was a genius and he also had the money for things like a fallout shelter and even fallout chambers though his dad being part of the government didn't help. Finic like myself didn't care for his parents and just kept busy on building our bunker. He seemed unfazed by his dad's death. I didn't ask him about it and he didn't bother me about "mother".
I just kept my head down and helped with minor things. I did precautions and helped stock things like food, water, medical items, minor weapons, and protective clothing. Finic did the major things like building the shelter, getting the chambers, make a water purification station, and planning the fallout ratio for the blast.
Finic didn't know exactly where the bomb would strike only that it would probably be on the west side of Lincia City. Lincia City was less than 16 miles away and home to over 6,000,000 people most people on the west side.
Finic knew Lincia City was a hometown for big lawyers, an army base, and a lot of major political people that's how he predicted the likeliness of it getting bombed. Finic had also gotten the warning from the government that there probably wasn't going to be just one bomb. Using this he gathered most likely cities and worked from there.
I stand up once more and walk to the water purification machine. Finic's blue eyes follow me curiously. I tap the odd machine, it's wires and tubes twisted together and connecting to three boxes. The final box has a dip in the side with a covered spout.
"How did you even make this?" I ask Finic gesturing to the Purifier. I almost regret asking him except he just says the internet. I knit my eyebrows as I had expected a large complex answer.
I double checked our stuff. Finic walks over to the sleeping bags we stored and lays them out. Finic explains that the pills/chamber had side effects one being exhaustion ironically enough.
Finic yawns and I soon follow. After I check all the stuff I lay in my bag next to Finic's. My eyes flutter closed and my mind races too fast for my body. I fall asleep despite my racing mind too tired to even fight it.

The first explosion wiped New York off the map over six million people died. The government started testing sirens and making bomb shelters hours after the explosions. Many people panicked and ended up dead weeks after it. The entire world started preparing and the government started blaming.
A couple of weeks after the first explosion we got an estimate of not only the number of people dead or injured but also the possible suspects. Many countries were blamed by many different people. America's enemies, of course, being the first victim of the terrible blamed blast. Soon after places like Korea and the Middle East marked Enemies of America came allies like France and England.
Not a month had gone by when the second bomb had gone off in London. The bomb this time being more powerful. The explosion was said to be from America and caused the death of over seven million people. The explosion marked the official start of Operation A .Z. A full blown Nuclear War between Everyone.
